This online pre-course is the required prerequisite for the 2-Day Chain Saw Operations for Landowners Skills Program. Designed for landowners, land managers, and prescribed fire practitioners, the course provides the foundational knowledge needed to safely participate in the hands-on field training.
Through approximately four hours of online instruction, participants will learn chainsaw safety principles, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, chainsaw components and maintenance, hazard recognition, cutting fundamentals, and safe work practices. The course also introduces risk management concepts, situational awareness, and operational planning commonly used during fuels reduction, defensible space, and prescribed fire preparation projects.
This online component may be completed at any time and at your own pace but must be successfully completed prior to attending one of our statewide 2-Day Skills Sessions. Completion of the online pre-course ensures all participants arrive prepared with a common understanding of safe chainsaw practices and terminology before participating in hands-on field exercise
