The Chainsaw Operations for Landowners course is designed to provide safe, practical chainsaw training for landowners, ranchers, and community members involved in vegetation management, defensible space, fuels reduction, and property maintenance. The program includes a required online learning component followed by two in-the-field skills days focused on hands-on instruction and real-world application.
Participants must register for and successfully complete the online training component prior to attending any in-person skills session. The online course provides approximately two hours of foundational instruction covering chainsaw safety, PPE requirements, saw maintenance, hazard recognition, cutting principles, and safe operating practices.
The two field skills days build upon this knowledge through hands-on training in chainsaw operation, starting procedures, cutting techniques, limbing, bucking, and basic tree felling considerations. Field exercises are designed to build confidence, improve operational awareness, and promote safe work practices in a wildland environment.
This course is ideal for individuals looking to develop practical chainsaw skills while supporting wildfire resilience, land stewardship, and community-based fuels reduction efforts.
